Getting My First 50 Followers on Medium
What did it mean to me?
Starting writing on any platform can be daunting.
Thinking about gaining followers and starting from zero adds to that daunting feeling. However, my realization so far in my short medium journey is that one needs to just focus on purely writing.
It’s always tempting to constantly look at the number of one’s followers , however if one focuses on pushing out quality writing, the followers will automatically come one’s way.
Being successful as a writer boils down to a passionate writer delivering work that resonates with that specific writer which in turn will resonate with the writer’s readers thereby leading to followers.
Focusing on pushing out quality content and attracting those followers is something I do hold close to my heart.
Once the followers come one’s way, It is also then very important to appreciate those followers.
In a world where we are bombarded with information overload, now more than ever every follower on any platform needs to be treasured and appreciated.
I try my best to interact daily with followers as well as other writers. This is vitally important, as I feel this keeps me more connected to the world. It connects me to the world more than just googling and reading news articles.
Connecting with followers as well as fellow writers also solidifies stronger online bonds which I also feel is important in this current day and age.
Coming from South Africa, we currently cannot be a part of the Medium Partner program due to it only being open to selected countries. Soon, hopefully this will change. However, even though the partner program is not open to my country, I still choose to be a part of this amazing platform and be a paid member.
I know that my contribution and interaction is making a difference to so many fellow writers.
I get to interact with some amazing writers on this platform. I get to read life experiences of writers who have experienced so many different life situations.
So if you are also new to the medium platform, my advice to you is to take your writing very seriously on this platform. Keep at your writing, keep pushing and everything will automatically fall into place.
Getting my first 50 followers did make me feel good and more appreciated. It also triggered me to work even harder as well as smarter. It meant more chiseled focus. My plan going forward is to focus on writing more often as well as always work at improving my writing style.
